Carrot Common mall includes 17 stores (total of 21,000 square feet, 10,000 square feet of office space, and 33 parking spaces. The mall has a central courtyard which has become a very popular neighbourhood gathering space and a busy pedestrian area.
The site of Carrot Common was part of the original grant to the Player family in the late 18th century, who were among the earliest settlers in Toronto. John Lea Playter built a grand, three-storey brick house on the northeast corner of Danforth and Jackman Avenues, later torn down and replaced with a used car lot.

The Carrot Green Roof is located atop the Carrot Common. This project is an expansion of the earlier roof garden projects of Zora Ignjatovic & Dennis Morrison on a previous roof deck above The Big Carrot. Over 40 individuals were actively involved in the design and construction of the new Green Roof. An important component of the construction and green roof work was the apprenticeship training offered to a number of individuals, including residents from a local recovery centre.
A key goal of the Carrot Green Roof is to support community engagement and collaboration.
