Job Summary:

The primary function of the Baker is to provide overall proficiency and assistance in the production of baked goods while ensuring The Big Carrot’s adherence to organic, non-GMO standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with quality assurance and customer satisfaction by following preset formulations on a consistent basis to keep the quality and cost constant.
  • Learns and adheres to the designated cooking / baking methods for consistently preparing the appropriate baked goods.
  • Food preparation which includes but are not limited to, cleaning, chopping, peeling foods.
  • Ensures proper storage method of food ingredients in their designated area and ensuring that they are rotated properly.
  • Safely using kitchen equipment which includes, but are not limited to, dishwasher, oven, stove (gas top), knives, robot coupe, hand shredder, and small grader.
  • In order to adhere to food health and safety standards, maintain a clean and safe work area and ensure proper cleaning of kitchen equipment.
  • Work efficiently and effectively with other staff to uphold organic standards while producing the highest quality food items.
  • Provide excellent customer service when in contact with customers or other staff.
  • Understand and observe all policies & procedures concerning store operations and health & safety.
  • Performs all other duties as required by the Food Services Manager and/or Store Manager.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Previous experience as a baker is an asset.
  • Professional communication skills are required
  • Ability to take direction and organize tasks
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • To efficiently utilize time management skills in a multitasking environment
  • Must be available to work early mornings (5AM) and weekends

Job Summary:

Service and Food Assembly Staff are responsible for providing friendly and efficient customer service by portioning, slicing, assembling, wrapping, weighing, and labelling prepared foods. Staff are also required to assist with department cleaning and food prep as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service while efficiently serving and assembling food orders.
  • Assist in portioning, packaging, and labeling prepared food items.
  • In order to adhere to food health and safety standards, maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Follows all designated departmental methods and policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safe food handling and organic compliance standards for food preparation, storage, serving and clean-up.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned by Food Service Managers and Supervisors.
  • Attends all required Organic Compliance trainings and follows designated protocols
  • In the event that compliance of organic standards procedures cannot be met, notifies manager/supervisor or Standards Coordinator.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • 1 year experience with food prep and food service.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Multi-task during periods of high customer volumes
  • Must be available evenings and weekends

Job Summary:

The primary function of the cashier is to provide overall exceptional customer service for the Big Carrot by facilitating a pleasant shopping experience while processing transactions of customer purchases.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service by interacting with customers in a friendly, familiar and efficient manner.
  • Perform all transactions as accurately as possible, keeping debit and credit receipts neatly placed in the sections provided.
  • Ensure manufacturer's coupons are examined and processed accurately.
  • Process refunds as per Cash Department best practices.
  • Bag groceries neatly and efficiently if required.
  • Prior to starting shift ,when possible, check for new products daily (especially in the Produce Department).
  • Notify supervisor of any customer complaints and concerns, price discrepancies, and equipment problems and/or tech issues that arise.
  • Update lost grocery file as necessary.
  • Return product and bottles to designated shelves when required.
  • Direct customers to Customer Service for returns, complaints, and other situations that warrant longer explanations unrelated to the cash front.
  • Assist other cashiers when free and as needed.
  • Arrive for the start of shift on time and ready to work. Remember to give yourself a few minutes to get settled and look over product skus and codes.
  • Make sure to follow posted schedules unless otherwise advised.
  • Perform closing duties which can vary from trash disposal to general tidy up as directed by a Cash Supervisor.
  • Observe the policies and procedures regarding store operations and the health and safety policy.
  • All other duties as required by the department manager.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • No previous education required
  • Previous experience working with processing cash, debit and credit transactions an asset
  • Enjoys working with customers and the public
  • Attention to detail
  • Remaining attentive, focused, and calm in an often busy environment
  • Ability to prioritize workload
  • Flexibility of schedule (weekends and evenings)
