Crock Pot Apple Butter
Apple butter isn’t really butter at all – it’s like super thick applesauce. Use this spread on top of French toast for a decadent breakfast or alongside a pork dinner. Throw a spoonful in your smoothie…or right into your mouth! You might even add a bit of hot water and a splash of whiskey for a hot cider cocktail. The best thing about this apple butter, apart from its amazing taste and application, is the smell that fills your house as the crock pot works its magic. Make extra and share with your loved ones this harvest season.
1 cup apple cider/juice OR 1 cup water + 4 dates
1 tsp lemon juice
¼-½ teaspoon nutmeg
½ – 1 teaspoon cinnamon
just a pinch of ground cloves
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
pinch of sea salt
12 red apples, cored, chopped, skin on
Place all ingredients in a slow cooker for 10-12 hours. Adjust spices based on your preference. Store in jars in the fridge for several weeks or freeze.
