The Top 5 Foods For Detoxification
The good news is that your body can detoxify efficiently without having to go through intense fasts, expensive supplements, or restrictive dieting. It does really well when it gets offered the correct nutrients and foods needed for optimal function of all organs of detoxification. 2. Onions are frequently disregarded on the nutrition scale but they contain some of the highest levels of an antioxidant called quercetin that works as both an antihistamine and an anti-inflammatory agent. It also has the potential to induce CYP 2A6 in the liver to support the detox pathway. In Chinese Medicine, onions are seen as being drying in nature, thus decreasing damp accumulation in the body that presents as mucus, congestion, ovarian cysts, fibroids, difficulty losing weight, and so on.
3. Pumpkin seeds should be enjoyed year round, not simply at Halloween. They are a rich source of the alkaline mineral magnesium making it necessary for the neutralization of acidic conditions, protecting our bones and other buffer systems in our body. It is also a required nutrients for almost every pathway of phase 2 liver detox, one we certainly don’t want to avoid, as it can lead to a terrible accumulation of toxins in the intermediate phase.
4. Avocados are full of glutathione, the master detoxifier for the body. Glutathione is crucial for detoxification pathways in the liver; it is mainly involved in the detoxification of heavy metals, carcinogens and xenoestrogens (foreign chemicals that can mimic hormones) through a process called glutathione conjugation. This is the act of joining together the toxic chemicals with glutathione via an enzyme called glutathione S-transferase.
5. Sauerkraut makes for a powerful detox food for two reasons: it contains probiotics and is made of cabbage, a good source of indole-3-carbinol (I3C). As a fermented food rich in probiotics, it has an anti-inflammatory effect that can attenuate immune cell responses and support the GI tract with the evacuation of waste products and toxins that are fat soluble, such as hormones. I3C also helps with the breakdown and evacuation of harmful estrogen from the body because it induces both phase 1 and 2 of liver detoxification pathways. As did the probiotics, it reduces inflammatory intermediates from the body.
