Assistant Manager, Produce Department (Danforth Location)

Job Summary

The primary function of the Produce Assistant Manager is to provide overall day-to-day operational functionality of the department in the absence of the Produce Manager; to ensure adequate receiving, stocking, rotation and preparation of produce and bulk items; to meet objectives for sales, inventory turns, labour, product selections and customer service.

Major Responsibilities

At the discretion and/or in the absence of the Produce Manager, duties may include:

  • Oversees department staff supervision, scheduling, task delegation, stock movement and rotation, equipment function, and departmental cleanliness as per departmental and store policies and procedures.
  • Makes observations and documents day-to-day running of the department and confers with Department Manager on a regular basis regarding the state of the department.
  • Attends all Department and Manager Meetings if and when required.
  • Offers prompt and courteous customer service, fields customer complaints, solves customer conflicts, and proactively determines customer needs.
  • Creates a positive environment among department employees, motivates staff to take responsibility and to make decisions based on experience.
  • Participates in purchasing product, budgeting, and/or analyzing departmental financials.
  • Keyholder responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ensuring store-wide opening or closing tasks are met; acting as management representative in situations requiring manager intervention (e.g. staffing issues, customer complaints, equipment failure, messages for management personnel)
  • Adheres to all operational and health & safety policies and procedures, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, and any organic compliance standards and procedures.
  • Must work evenings and weekends.
  • Perform any other job-related and/or managerial tasks at the discretion of the Produce Manager or Store Manager.

Skills/Attributes Required:

  • Knowledge of current trends in the natural foods industry.
  • Has the experience and ability to read and understand financial statements.
  • Outstanding organizational and communication skills, including verbal skills required to deliver effective direction, relay strategic information, and discipline.
  • Ability to provide leadership and guidance and create a positive working environment that fosters creativity and problem solving.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job.
  • As keyholder, may work indoor and outdoor in all seasons and varying temperatures, some heavy lifting required (up to 55lbs); excellent customer service skills required

Education/Experience Required:

  • 1-2 years of relevant retail management experience in a grocery setting.
  • Relative management college level diploma an asset.

Meat Wrapper (Danforth Store) ( Up to 32 hours/week)

Job Summary: The Meat Wrapper is responsible for receiving and processing product and coordinating the appropriate flow of stock onto the floor. Staff are also responsible for providing excellent customer service and maintaining a clean and comfortable store environment. Responsibilities:

  • The meat wrapper is responsible for receiving, storing, wrapping, weighing, pricing, and rotation of meat department products which include pre-packaged deli and frozen items.
  • Delivers excellent, friendly, customer service and product knowledge to customers.
  • Maintains a clean, neat and organized workplace and shelf/display space with appropriate labelling.
  • Involves working in both coolers and freezers; temperature extremes in working environment.
  • Involves moving or lifting objects of various weights (up to 50lbs) and sizes.
  • Involves standing for extended periods of time.
  • Exposure to sharp objects, large machinery.
  • Adheres to all operational, health & safety, and organic compliance policies and procedures when the above responsibilities are performed.
  • Any other job-related tasks as required by the Meat Department Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Previous meat room and customer service experience an asset.
  • Must have a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
  • Positive customer service attitude.
  • Dexterity to lift and maneuver loads of up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in close quarters and perform repetitive tasks in varying environmental conditions.
  • Must wear CSA-approved steel toed shoes while on duty.
  • Must be available for evening and weekend shifts

Baker, Beach location (Part Time)

Job Description The primary function of the Baker is to provide overall proficiency and assistance in the production of baked goods while ensuring The Big Carrot’s adherence to organic, non-GMO and vegetarian standards.   Major Responsibilities

  • Assist with quality assurance and customer satisfaction by following preset formulations on a consistent basis to keep the quality and cost constant.
  • Learns and adheres to the designated cooking / baking methods for consistently preparing the appropriate baked goods.
  • Food preparation which includes but are not limited to, cleaning, chopping, peeling foods.
  • Ensures proper storage method of food ingredients in their designated area and ensuring that they are rotated properly.
  • Safely using kitchen equipment which includes, but are not limited to, dishwasher, oven, stove (gas top), knives, robot coupe, hand shredder, and small grader.
  • In order to adhere to food health and safety standards, maintain a clean and safe work area and ensure proper cleaning of kitchen equipment.
  • Work efficiently and effectively with other staff to uphold organic standards while producing the highest quality food items.
  • Provide excellent customer service when in contact with customers or other staff.
  • Understand and observe all policies & procedures concerning store operations and health & safety.
  • Performs all other duties as required by the Head Baker and Executive Chef

  Requirements

  • Previous experience as a baker required.
  • Ability to work non-traditional work schedule which includes night shifts.
  • Professional communication skills are required
  • Ability to take direction and organize tasks
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.

Makeup Artist/Consultant (Danforth Location)

Job Summary

The primary function of the Body Care Makeup Artist/Consultant is to provide excellent customer service through their knowledge, use and application of makeup and other skin care products, as well as the appropriate promotion of said products.  Through clear communication with their managers and supervisors, they will achieve and maintain daily productivity goals.

Responsibilities

  • Be proactive by approaching clients first in an effort to assist their needs.
  • Accurately and efficiently process point of sales transactions.
  • Prioritize, organize, and carry out tasks set forth on a daily to do list.
  • Effective and efficient receiving and stocking of product onto shelves.
  • General cleaning and tidying of the sales floor and makeup displays and vanity.
  • Staying current on operational, departmental, and health & safety policy and procedures.
  • Attend department trainings and product knowledge sessions.
  • Attend staff meetings and keep up to date on department changes in protocol.
  • Establish a professional relationship with makeup companies
  • Any other responsibilities as required by the department manager and supervisors.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of body care and/or cosmetic products in the natural health industry.
  • Certification in the field of Make-up Artistry required
  • Previous experience working in a natural health retail environment.
  • Exhibits excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Flexibility of schedule, some weekend and evening shifts.
