Part time - Grocery/Produce Clerk (Up to 16 hours/wk) Southwood

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Grocery/Produce Staff is to provide overall assistance to the department supervisor in facilitating product onto the sales floor while providing great customer service.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Follows designated departmental methods and store policies and procedures including, but not limited to, organic compliance standards for prioritizing, organizing and receiving orders, labelling, rotating and processing stock, storage, cleaning and waste removal.
  • Maintains clean, neat, and appropriately labelled shelves (i.e. name of products, price, sale price, etc.)
  • Coordinates the flow of stock from the back store room onto the shelves and into bins on the sales floor, pulling and rotating product according to expiry dates.
  • Maintains awareness of spatial orientation on the floor to allow ease of customer traffic in the aisles.
  • Provides excellent customer service by offering prompt, informative and polite customer service to all customers when on the floor or over the phone  (includes retrieving products for customers and ensuring customer questions or concerns are addressed).
  • Unloading skids of product and receiving orders
  • Operating the walkie stacker forklift if necessary
  • Wearing all necessary Personal Protective Equipment as required (e.g. CSA steel toed boots)
  • Adhere to all operational and health & safety policies and procedures when the above responsibilities are performed
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors, fellow employees, and customers regarding special orders, product requests, and day-to-day briefs as per departmental methods and policies.
  • All other tasks deemed necessary by the Department Manager.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with produce, retail, grocery, and/or customer service is an asset 
  • No previous education required
  • Ability to move loads of 35+ lbs.
  • Ability to move loads of 45+ lbs.
  • Strong work ethic, shows initiative and the motivation to complete work assignments
  • Punctuality – arriving to work on time and completing assigned shifts
  • Flexibility of schedule (weekends and evening)

Permanent PT - FOH/Food Assembly Staff (24 hours/wk) Danforth

Job Summary

Service and Food Assembly Staff are responsible for providing friendly and efficient customer service by portioning, slicing, assembling, wrapping, weighing, and labelling prepared foods. Staff are also required to assist with department cleaning and food prep as needed.

Job Duties

  • Provide excellent customer service while efficiently serving and assembling food orders.
  • Assist in portioning, packaging, and labelling prepared food items.
  • In order to adhere to food health and safety standards, maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Follows all designated departmental methods and policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safe food handling and organic compliance standards for food preparation, storage, serving and clean up.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned by Food Service Managers and Supervisors.
  • Attends all required Organic Compliance trainings and follows designated protocols
  • In the event that compliance of organic standards procedures cannot be met, notifies manager/supervisor or Standards Coordinator.

Permanent PT - Dishwasher (up to 16 hours/wk) Danforth

Job Summary

The primary function of the Dishwasher is to provide overall assistance and support in the general function and operation of the Kitchen through the use of essential knowledge and skills required to wash, clean and store dishes, utensils, food preparation equipment and/or kitchen.  Such skills include proficiently being able to utilize kitchen tools including but not limited to the proper knife handling/cleaning procedures.

Job Duties

  • Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans and other kitchen equipment and ensure store cleanliness standards, using dishwasher or by hand.
  • Food preparation if necessary: clean or prepare various food items for cooking or serving.
  • Maintain a dry and clean floor surface through proper use of mops, squeegees, or scrubbing.
  • Ensure that food is properly stored.
  • Transfer supplies between storage or other departments and work areas, by hand or using a cart.
  • Remove compost and garbage
  • Performing kitchen maintenance; emptying the trash and washing dishes.
  • Assist in time management including making sure there is adequate materials available for use.
  • Transferring orders from produce as needed and putting the vegetable order away.
  • Putting the dry goods away and straightening the dry goods shelves.
  • Preparation kitchen as needed by peeling potatoes and chopping vegetables.
  • Adhere to all operational, health & safety, and organic compliance policies and procedures when the above responsibilities are performed.
  • Any other job-related tasks as required by the Food Service Manager.

Permanent FT - E-Commerce Specialist

Job Summary

The E-commerce Specialist, reporting to the Operations Manager, will contribute to the strategic execution of growing our Ecommerce sales channel. The ideal candidate is well versed in all aspects of paid media (i.e. ppc, facebook ads, search, re-targeting), and has the ability to get things done with limited resources. He/she will be responsible for managing all operations relating to Ecommerce, including working cross functionally with the rest of the team, vendors, and customer service.

Job Duties

  • Increase our overall Ecommerce sales by strategizing + executing re-targeting and new customer acquisition campaigns.
  • Feature enrichment, Development & Design: Identifies modifications or new requirements for improvement on the site, with special attention to user experience
  • Works cross-functionally with Team Leads and Managers of other departments to advance new developments to the site
  • Manages all updates and changes made to shop.the bigcarrot.ca (in Shopify) and Cornershop
  • Liaises with Creative team, Developers, and other outsourced vendors as required.
  • Gathers and interprets online analytics to be used in improving user experience and increasing sales.
  • Add/identify new products, product trends, create product sales, update products for both platforms – Shopify & Cornershop
  • Tracks sales results against plan – weekly and monthly reporting
  • Develops and execute a strategy to build customer loyalty towards shop.the bigcarrot.ca
  • Coordinates with our customer service team to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction

  • Experience with Photoshop and Illustrator is necessary

Temporary PT - Cold Press Juicer Lead Operator (6 mos, 15 to 24 hours/wk)

Job Summary

The primary function of the Cold Press Juicer Operator is to ensure optimal production of Cold Press Juice supply for all locations and maintain the daily functioning of the Cold Press Juice operation, following all Food Safety/Quality Control and Organic Certification and Health and Safety parameters. 

Job Duties

Juicing responsibilities for the cold pressed juice production and delivery:

  • Ordering produce to be juiced, labels, bottles and any other product necessary in the production of bottled juice as per parameters of Juice Bar/Cold Press Manager; address any quality or supply issues related to these items as per standards and policies
  • Coordinate with the Produce Manager to obtain best prices and quality of produce.
  • Maintaining, ordering, quality and supply issues of all auxiliary items for the production of cold pressed juice as per Quality Control and Organic Compliance standards. (This includes, but is not limited to, cleaning supplies, replacement bags, knife sharpening, cutting boards, towels, spare parts, etc. as deemed necessary.)
  • Any issues related to product supply, should be reported to the Juice Bar/ Cold Press Manager. 
  • Will be responsible to hit quotas and labour targets within specific production timeframes, usually within the operating hours of the warehouse.
  • Will be responsible for food safety and quality control of the cold pressed juice process including ordering, washing, preparing produce for pressing/juicing, temperature control, and sanitation.
  • Will be required to maintain comprehensive records regarding but not limited to manufacturing, food safety, quality control and organic compliance. 
  • Will be responsible for proper use and maintenance of the pressing apparatus. (e.g. regular tune-ups, parts replacements, as well as assembling and disassembling for regular sanitation cleaning between presses.) 
  • Will be responsible for training others on the proper use and maintenance of the cold press machinery should the need arise at a specific time outside of the regular pressing schedule if there is only one Operator.
  • Coordinates with Delivery Driver, Warehouse Manager and Store Managers to consider where cold pressed juice delivery fits within the daily logistics delivery schedule and Food Safety Procedures for Transportation and Shipping. 
  • On occasion, should the need arise, the Cold Press Operator can undertake warehousing duties as per the Warehouse Manager’s instructions
  • Perform any other job-related and/or managerial tasks at the discretion of the Food Services Manager, Warehouse Manager  or General Manager

 

Experience/Skills/Attributes Required:

  • Minimum 1 year experience in food services
  • Supervisory experience an asset
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to be flexible with roles 
  • Ability to work under pressure and take initiative
