Permanent PT - Meat Wrapper (25 to 32 hours/wk) Danforth and Southwood

Job Summary:

The Meat Wrapper is responsible for receiving and processing product and coordinating the appropriate flow of stock onto the floor. Staff are also responsible for providing excellent customer service and maintaining a clean and comfortable store environment.

Major Responsibilities:

  • The meat packer is responsible for receiving, storing, wrapping, weighing, pricing, and rotation of meat department products which include pre-packaged deli and frozen items.
  • Delivers excellent, friendly, customer service and product knowledge to customers.
  • Maintains a clean, neat and organized workplace and shelf/display space with appropriate labelling.
  • Involves working in both coolers and freezers; temperature extremes in working environment.
  • Involves moving or lifting objects of various weights (up to 50lbs) and sizes.
  • Involves standing for extended periods of time.
  • Exposure to sharp objects, large machinery. 
  • Adheres to all operational, health & safety, and organic compliance policies and procedures when the above responsibilities are performed.

Permanent PT - CSR/Nutritionist (up to 24 hrs/week) Southwood

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Customer Service Representative / Nutritionist is to provide overall frontline customer care, through clear communication with customers, staff, and department managers. The role requires effectively delivering one-to-one and group information either in a preventative or a service capacity, and to achieve and maintain the highest level of customer satisfaction.

CSR/Cash Responsibilities:

  • Excellent customer care aptitude in all avenues of customer interaction.
  • Research and update customer handout sheets.
  • Process customer requests i.e cooking class enrollment, mail outs, nutritional store tours (refer to department training binder.)
  • Various cashier duties: keying in or scanning the price of merchandise, receiving payments, bagging productivity

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • A degree in Holistic Nutrition from an accredited institution is required
  • Minimum of 2 years previous customer service experience or working one-on-one with the public is an asset.

Permanent FT - Baker (33 to 37.5 hrs/week) Danforth

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Baker is to provide overall proficiency and assistance in the production of baked goods while ensuring The Big Carrot’s adherence to organic, non-GMO standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with quality assurance and customer satisfaction by following preset formulations on a consistent basis to keep the quality and cost constant.
  • Learns and adheres to the designated cooking / baking methods for consistently preparing the appropriate baked goods.
  • Food preparation which includes but are not limited to, cleaning, chopping, peeling foods.
  • Ensures proper storage method of food ingredients in their designated area and ensuring that they are rotated properly.
  • Safely using kitchen equipment which includes, but are not limited to, dishwasher, oven, stove (gas top), knives, robot coupe, hand shredder, and small grader.
  • In order to adhere to food health and safety standards, maintain a clean and safe work area and ensure proper cleaning of kitchen equipment.
  • Work efficiently and effectively with other staff to uphold organic standards while producing the highest quality food items.
  • Provide excellent customer service when in contact with customers or other staff.
  • Understand and observe all policies & procedures concerning store operations and health & safety.

Temporary FT - Print Media Marketing Assistant (6 mos., 33 to 37.5 hrs/week)

Job Summary:

The marketing assistant is a junior marketing position that supports and collaborates with the marketing team to ensure that a cohesive advertising and marketing campaign is provided for the organization through the use of outside print and traditional media representation as well as collaboration with new media projects. The goal of this position is to help promote the Big Carrot brand and bring awareness of the company’s position and vision. This is an ideal role for an individual new to the advertising and marketing industry with an interest in print media.

Responsibilities:

  • Creation and execution of the monthly in-store & online flyer
  • Apply monthly flyer sales to online platforms such as the Big Carrot e-commerce site & other third party vendors
  • Assist with other print advertising and media requirements as needed
  • Must be able to identify sales opportunities with existing clients and may be asked to participate in new business development efforts
  • Identify new and key advertising markets, and propose new products and services
  • Attend Marketing strategy meetings, industry trade shows, and training seminars in order to gather information, promote products, and expand network of contacts, and increase awareness.
  • Administrative management – responsible for updating the store(s) phone message system, websites, Google My Business
  • Assists with all in-store signage and communication needs

Full-time - Human Resources Manager

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Human Resources Manager is to provide overall operational direction for the HR Department.  The Manager will be responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of the Big Carrot’s human resources by planning, implementing and evaluating employee relations and human resources policies, programs and practices.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures compliance of all store policies and protocols, including but not limited to Health and Safety; creates and implements regular reviews, trainings and trainings schedules for optimal compliance
  • Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource requirements; conducting investigations; maintaining records;
  • Oversees the TBC Health and Safety Program; Develop and review operational and health & safety policies that are compliant with all statutory requirements; responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Advises store and/or department managers in appropriate resolution of employee relation issues or progressive discipline; oversees and conducts investigations on potential violence and harassment situations; conducts or/advises on mediation and exit interviews.
  • Oversees use and maintenance of the Human Resource Information System.
  • Oversees and reviews the recruitment, selection and onboarding process of new employees; Oversees and manages TBC performance review program
  • Development and review of the TBC Pay Equity Plan and wage compensation.
  • Oversees the administration of TBC’s Group Health Benefits Plan and utilization of the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP).
  • Maintains company Human Resource records in conjunction with legal requirements and operational policy; maintains confidentiality of information with regards to Human Resource records and personnel information as required by law. 
  • Prepares and authorizes documents that may include employment letters / contracts, termination letters, releases, job descriptions.
  • Develop or maintain relationships with suppliers or consulting firms for HR and/or benefits consulting and services; authorizes the use of their services.
  • Responsible for HR department staff recruitment and dismissals, trainings, task delegation,  communicating job expectations, evaluations, disciplinary actions, and scheduling
  • Any other HR responsibilities as required by the Operations Manager.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • College diploma required; Post secondary education with a focus in Human Resources Management, possessing the CHRP/ CHRL designation is preferred.
  • 2-4 years of relevant management or HR experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in health and safety, pay equity, conflict resolution, policy, payroll and / or benefits administration an asset.
  • Strong computer and typing skills; literate in software that includes word processing, presentation, software, spreadsheets (e.g. MS Office, Google Drive apps).

Full-time - Marketing Manager

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Marketing  Manager is to provide overall operational direction for the Marketing Department. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development and management of a strategic marketing business plans and annual budgets
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive and creative marketing campaign supporting branding themes, and bringing customers awareness of The Big Carrot’s foundational pillars; managing the reporting and measurement of campaign results and opportunities
  • Manages the development and production of all marketing materials from bags, company attire, signage of all types, standards, pamphlets, and promotional materials.
  • Manages the evaluation and exploration of new marketing ideas, concepts, and partners/cross promotions building new opportunities, database growth, opportunities and brand awareness.
  • Responsible for departmental  staff recruitment and dismissals, departmental training, task delegation,  communicating job expectations, evaluations, disciplinary actions, and scheduling as per store policy and procedures and applicable laws
  • Creates a positive environment amongst department employees; motivates staff to take responsibility and to make decisions based on experience; ensures all pertinent information is shared with staff in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Collaboration with external suppliers to source quotes, and ensure accurate and timely production of deliverables from agencies, graphic designers, editors, talent, printers and designers

Permanent FT - Wellness (Dispensary) Inventory Staff (33 to 37.5 hrs/week)

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Wellness Inventory Staff is to assist in the management of in-store inventory, counting product for inventory, ordering from the warehouse and select suppliers (as delegated by the Department Manager and Purchaser) and working within the department inventory budget as set out by the Wellness Purchasers.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain an ordering schedule with select suppliers , counting inventory as per schedule
  • Create and place orders while paying special attention to account details
  • Minimizing in-store “out of stock” products and ordering products as directed by Purchaser and Department Manager
  • Promptly dealing with customer special orders and suppliers regarding customer returns and damaged product as per departmental policy
  • Communicate effectively and work with Department Managers and/or Purchasers for day-to-day tag changes/zero sellers/new product placement.
  • Work on monthly flyer displays in Wellness (Dispensary) and main store; ensure that sales tags are printed and maintained
  • Keeping up-to-date on promotional and demo schedules to maintain appropriate stock levels
