Permanent PT - Meat Wrapper (25 to 32 hours/wk) Danforth and Southwood

Job Summary:

The Meat Wrapper is responsible for receiving and processing product and coordinating the appropriate flow of stock onto the floor. Staff are also responsible for providing excellent customer service and maintaining a clean and comfortable store environment.

Major Responsibilities:

  • The meat packer is responsible for receiving, storing, wrapping, weighing, pricing, and rotation of meat department products which include pre-packaged deli and frozen items.
  • Delivers excellent, friendly, customer service and product knowledge to customers.
  • Maintains a clean, neat and organized workplace and shelf/display space with appropriate labelling.
  • Involves working in both coolers and freezers; temperature extremes in working environment.
  • Involves moving or lifting objects of various weights (up to 50lbs) and sizes.
  • Involves standing for extended periods of time.
  • Exposure to sharp objects, large machinery. 
  • Adheres to all operational, health & safety, and organic compliance policies and procedures when the above responsibilities are performed.

Permanent FT - Baker (33 to 37.5 hrs/week) Danforth

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Baker is to provide overall proficiency and assistance in the production of baked goods while ensuring The Big Carrot’s adherence to organic, non-GMO standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with quality assurance and customer satisfaction by following preset formulations on a consistent basis to keep the quality and cost constant.
  • Learns and adheres to the designated cooking / baking methods for consistently preparing the appropriate baked goods.
  • Food preparation which includes but are not limited to, cleaning, chopping, peeling foods.
  • Ensures proper storage method of food ingredients in their designated area and ensuring that they are rotated properly.
  • Safely using kitchen equipment which includes, but are not limited to, dishwasher, oven, stove (gas top), knives, robot coupe, hand shredder, and small grader.
  • In order to adhere to food health and safety standards, maintain a clean and safe work area and ensure proper cleaning of kitchen equipment.
  • Work efficiently and effectively with other staff to uphold organic standards while producing the highest quality food items.
  • Provide excellent customer service when in contact with customers or other staff.
  • Understand and observe all policies & procedures concerning store operations and health & safety.

Permanent PT - Dispensary Consultant (25 to 32 hours/week) Danforth

Job Summary:

The main responsibility of the Wholistic Dispensary Consultant is to provide excellent customer service using their product knowledge, expertise in their field of study, engaged customer interaction and positive attitude.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a prompt, pleasant and educated customer service experience.
  • Apply consultation experience to assess customer’s requirements, active listening, educated product information and balanced closing sales techniques.
  • Maintains up-to-date and clear communication and professional relationships with other staff as well as the Wellness Managers and Supervisors via all modes of communication (e.g. verbally, staff log, etc.)
  • Process point of sales transactions quickly, accurately and efficiently.
  • Stock products and perform other required duties in times of low customer traffic

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Knowledge of supplements a requirement (e.g. general uses, relation to health conditions, brands)

  • Naturopathic students in Year 2 or above also qualify. 
  • Previous experience working as a natural health care consultant or clinical practitioner is an asset
  • Training, knowledge and/or awareness of Canadian Organic Standards, genetically engineered organisms, and food security is an asset.

Temporary PT - Customer Service Representative/Nutritionist (6 months, 16 to 28 hrs/ week) Danforth

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Customer Service Representative / Nutritionist is to provide overall frontline customer care, through clear communication with customers, staff, and department managers. The role requires effectively delivering one-to-one and group information either in a preventative or a service capacity, and to achieve and maintain the highest level of customer satisfaction.

CSR/Cash Responsibilities:

  • Excellent customer care aptitude in all avenues of customer interaction.
  • Research and update customer handout sheets.
  • Process customer requests i.e cooking class enrollment, mail outs, nutritional store tours (refer to department training binder.)
  • Various cashier duties: keying in or scanning the price of merchandise, receiving payments, bagging productivity

  • Well-versed in current products, trends, and food issues as well as the store’s active projects and ongoing standards initiatives.
  • Investigating the relationship between genes and nutrients, studying how diet affects metabolism.
  • Providing health and wellness advice and promoting healthy eating and lifestyle.
  • Involvement in outreach projects in collaboration with the PR in the Marketing department.
  • Advising on specific diets and dietary needs.
  • Educating customers about nutrition.
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team/supporting the work of other healthcare professionals (NDs, Herbalists).
  • Host store tours regarding specific and general food related or store topic.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Make-up Artist/Bodycare Consultant is to provide the customer an overall, confident, friendly, and informed shopping experience.  Through clear communication with their managers and supervisors, they will achieve and maintain daily productivity goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Be proactive by approaching customers first in an effort to assist their needs.
  • Makes recommendations to customers of the right type of product and/or combination of colours for skin and face; demonstrates the proper use and application of products; communicates product knowledge as appropriate.
  • Accurately and efficiently process point of sales transactions.
  • Prioritize, organize, and carry out tasks set forth on a daily to do list.
  • General cleaning and tidying of sales floor; stocking and merchandising of product onto shelves as needed.
  • Staying current on operational, departmental, and health & safety policy and procedures; attends staff meetings

Permanent Full-time Produce/Bulk staff (33 to 37.5 hours/week) - Danforth

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Produce-Bulk Staff is to maintain a well stocked floor and clean department area while providing great customer service and being mindful of general operating procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Follows designated departmental methods and store policies and procedures including, but not limited to, organic compliance standards for prioritizing, organizing and receiving orders, labelling, rotating and processing stock, storage, cleaning and waste removal.
  • Maintains clean, neat, and appropriately labelled shelves (ex. name of products, price, sale price, etc.)
  • Coordinates the flow of stock from the back store room onto the shelves and into bins on the sales floor, pulling and rotating product according to expiry dates.
  • Maintains awareness of spatial orientation on the floor to allow ease of customer traffic in the aisles.
  • Provides excellent customer service by offering prompt, informative and polite customer service to all customers when on the floor or over the phone  (includes retrieving products for customers and ensuring customer questions or concerns are addressed).
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors, fellow employees, and customers regarding special orders, product requests, and day-to-day briefs as per departmental methods and policies.
  • All other tasks deemed necessary by the Department Manager.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with produce, retail, grocery, and/or customer service is an asset

Job Summary:

The role of the Body Care Consultant / CSR is to provide excellent customer service, maintain the appearance of the sales floor, and contribute to a positive and productive working / shopping environment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Approach customers and provide confident, friendly, and informative customer service 
  • Accurately and quickly ring through purchases

Temporary Part-time Cashier (4 months, 6 to 24 hours/week) - Southwood

Job Summary:

The primary function of the cashier is to provide overall exceptional customer service for the Big Carrot by facilitating a pleasant shopping experience while processing transactions of customer purchases. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service by interacting with customers in a friendly, familiar and efficient manner.
  • Perform all transactions as accurately as possible, keeping debit and credit receipts neatly placed in the sections provided. 
  • Ensure manufacturer’s coupons are examined and processed accurately.
  • Process refunds as per Cash Department best practices.
  • Bag groceries neatly and efficiently if required.
  • Prior to starting shift ,when possible, check for new products daily (especially in the Produce Department).
  • Notify supervisor of any customer complaints and concerns, price discrepancies,  and equipment problems and/or tech issues that arise.
  • Update lost grocery file as necessary.
  • Return product and bottles to designated shelves when required.  
  • Direct customers to Customer Service for returns, complaints, and other situations that warrant longer explanation unrelated to the cash front.
  • Assist other cashiers when free and as needed.
  • Arrive for the start of shift on time and ready to work. Remember to give yourself a few minutes to get settled and look over product skus and codes.
  • Make sure to follow posted schedules unless otherwise advised.
  • Perform closing duties which can vary from trash disposal to general tidy up as directed by a Cash Supervisor.
  • Observe the policies and procedures regarding store operations and the health and safety policy.
