Permanent FT - Baker (33 to 37.5 hrs/week) Danforth

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Baker is to provide overall proficiency and assistance in the production of baked goods while ensuring The Big Carrot’s adherence to organic, non-GMO standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with quality assurance and customer satisfaction by following preset formulations on a consistent basis to keep the quality and cost constant.

Temporary Part-time Front of House Service/Food Assembly Staff (3 months, up to 24 hours/week) - Danforth

Job Summary:

The primary function of the cashier is to provide overall exceptional customer service for the Big Carrot by facilitating a pleasant shopping experience while processing transactions of customer purchases. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service while efficiently serving and assembling food orders.
  • Assist in portioning, packaging, and labelling prepared food items.
  • In order to adhere to food health and safety standards, maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Follows all designated departmental methods and policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safe food handling and organic compliance standards for food preparation, storage, serving and clean-up.

Permanent PT - Dishwasher (up to 16 hrs/week) Danforth

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Dishwasher is to provide overall assistance and support in the general function and operation of the Kitchen through the use of essential knowledge and skills required to wash, clean and store dishes, utensils, food preparation equipment and/or kitchen.  Such skills include proficiently being able to utilize kitchen tools including but not limited to the proper knife handling/cleaning procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans and other kitchen equipment and ensure store cleanliness standards, using dishwasher or by hand.
  • Food preparation if necessary: clean or prepare various food items for cooking or serving.
  • Maintain a dry and clean floor surface through proper use of mops, squeegees, or scrubbing.
  • Ensure that food is properly stored.
  • Transfer supplies between storage or other departments and work areas, by hand or using a cart.
  • Remove compost and garbage
  • Performing kitchen maintenance; emptying the trash and washing dishes.
  • Assist in time management including making sure there is adequate materials available for use.
  • Transferring orders from produce as needed and putting the vegetable order away.
  • Putting the dry goods away and straightening the dry goods shelves.
  • Preparation kitchen as needed by peeling potatoes and chopping vegetables.

Part-time - Grocery Stocker (up to 16 hrs/week) Danforth

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Grocery Stocker is to coordinate the flow of stock onto the floor, ensure that stock is rotated, expiry dates checked, and general stocking of the Grocery Department. Note that this includes the Fridge and Freezer section and Bread section of the Grocery Department. Excellent customer service is provided at all times when on the sales floor or over the telephone.

Responsibilities:

  • Offers prompt and polite customer service to all customers of the Grocery Department when on the floor or over the phone.
  • Handling customer questions and concerns in a friendly and informative matter to the best of his or her ability 
  • Knowing which resource (person or department) can assist with a customer if it is beyond the stocker’s scope of knowledge, and kindly directing them to that resource.
  • Coordinate the flow of stock from the back store room onto the shelves on the sales floor
  • Maintain clean, neat, and labelled shelves
  • Pulls and rotates product, taking into account expiry dates and changing labels
  • Awareness of spatial orientation on the floor to allow ease of customer traffic in the aisles

Permanent PT - Part time Produce/Bulk (25 to 32 hrs/week) Danforth

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Produce-Bulk Staff is to maintain a well stocked floor and clean department area while providing great customer service and being mindful of general operating procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Follows designated departmental methods and store policies and procedures including, but not limited to, organic compliance standards for prioritizing, organizing and receiving orders, labelling, rotating and processing stock, storage, cleaning and waste removal.
  • Maintains clean, neat, and appropriately labelled shelves (ex. name of products, price, sale price, etc.)
  • Coordinates the flow of stock from the back store room onto the shelves and into bins on the sales floor, pulling and rotating product according to expiry dates.
  • Maintains awareness of spatial orientation on the floor to allow ease of customer traffic in the aisles.
  • Provides excellent customer service by offering prompt, informative and polite customer service to all customers when on the floor or over the phone  (includes retrieving products for customers and ensuring customer questions or concerns are addressed).

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Body Care Consultant/Make up Artist is to provide the customer an overall, confident, friendly, and informed shopping experience.  Through clear communication with their managers and supervisors, they will achieve and maintain daily productivity goals. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be proactive by approaching customers first in an effort to assist their needs.
  • Makes recommendations to customers of the right type of product and/or combination of colours for skin and face; demonstrates the proper use and application of products; communicates product knowledge as appropriate.
  • Accurately and efficiently process point of sales transactions.
  • Prioritize, organize, and carry out tasks set forth on a daily to do list.
  • General cleaning and tidying of sales floor; stocking and merchandising of product onto shelves as needed.
  • Staying current on operational, departmental, and health & safety policy and procedures; attends staff meetings

Full-time Dispensary Consultant (33 to 37.5 hours/week) - Danforth

Job Summary:

The main responsibility of the Wholistic Dispensary Consultant is to provide excellent customer service using their product knowledge, expertise in their field of study, engaged customer interaction and positive attitude.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a prompt, pleasant and educated customer service experience.
  • Apply consultation experience to assess customer’s requirements, active listening, educated product information and balanced closing sales techniques.
  • Maintains up-to-date and clear communication and professional relationships with other staff as well as the Wellness Managers and Supervisors via all modes of communication (e.g. verbally, staff log, etc.)
  • Process point of sales transactions quickly, accurately and efficiently.
  • Stock products and perform other required duties in times of low customer traffic
  • Follow department cleanliness requirements.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Knowledge of supplements a requirement (e.g. general uses, relation to health conditions, brands)
  • Certification or diploma in Nutrition / Wholistic Health (e.g. ND, Homeopathy, Herbalist, TCM etc.) required. 
  • Naturopathic students in Year 2 or above also qualify. 
  • Previous experience working as a natural health care consultant or clinical practitioner is an asset

Full-time Grocery Assistant Manager (33 to 37.5 hours/week) - Danforth

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Grocery Department Assistant Manager is to provide overall day-to-day operational functionality of the department in support and in the absence of the Grocery Manager; to ensure adequate receiving and stocking of grocery items; to meet objectives for sales, inventory turns, labour, merchandising and excellent customer service.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for staff supervision and evaluation, delegation, and efficiencies within the department, at the direction of the department manager. 
  • May participate in hiring, interviewing and training of new employees at the discretion of the Department and Store Manager.
  • May be given the authority to be in a disciplinary role as per Big Carrot policy, at the discretion of the Department and Store Manager.
  • Ensures proper product merchandising and inventory ordering is completed at the direction of the department manager, oversees the receiving and flow of stock onto the grocery floor when on duty.
  • Creates a positive environment amongst department employees, motivates staff to take responsibility and to make decisions based on experience.
  • Ensures all Grocery equipment is running safely and efficiently; notifies the store management of any equipment malfunctions.
  • Makes observations and documents day-to-day running of the department and confers with Department Manager on a regular basis regarding the state of the department.
  • Adheres to and enforces the operational store policies and procedures, health & safety policies and procedures, the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Assists the staff on the floor when there is a high volume of product deliveries or customer enquiries.

Job Summary:
